The centenary of Shepparton High School

It has been a long time in the planning but last weekend proved to be a huge success with well over 1000 people attending the weekend’s events to celebrate 100 years of quality education in the City of Greater Shepparton. Many people travelled from across the country and in some cases from overseas to return to Shepparton to catch up with old friends and former teachers. People attending the re-union really enjoyed the opportunity to tour around the school throughout the weekend with the historical displays in the library creating much interest and conversation for past students. The events offered over the weekend included a Cocktail party (Fri evening), Official School Assembly (Sat afternoon), Dinner (Sat evening), Church service (Sun Morning) followed by a musical concert and a sausage sizzle where in excess of 300 visitor’s to the school watched Shepparton High’s U14 football team defeat Notre Dame. Well done to the boys on capping off a great weekend with an entertaining game to keep the crowd enthralled throughout Sunday afternoon.
Our School Captains in Resmi, Eilidh, Chris and Jo represented our school with distinction throughout the weekend at the various functions. Many of our current students and staff performed various roles at the organised events and did a terrific job in showcasing some of the programs operating at our school.
The feedback from people participating in the weekend’s events has been overwhelmingly positive. A big thank you to former Principal, Alan McLean for his work as the Project Coordinator in organising the program and ensuring the weekend ran smoothly. Copies of the Centenary book written for the occasion capture the history of the school and are available from the office at school for $20.00 along with other souvenirs.
We have seen many changes in education over the past 100 years and we will continue to strive to provide quality programs and innovative practice to ensure the best opportunities are provided for students to succeed at Shepparton High School.
