On the 24th August Shepparton High Chess Club took part in the Victorian Interschool Chess Championships. The championships took place at
There were 9 different schools competing for the gold medal. The game plan was simple: you have a timer, chess board and chess pieces. The Coordinator gave a briefing every quarter before a match. Then you would shake hands and start the timer. After a move you would hit the timer so it would be your opponents turn, and so on and so forth. You only had fifteen minutes of time play each, which would equal up to 30 minutes time play all together. It was tough the first round, some winning and some losing, but it got easier as we progressed.
Shepparton High did very well, our team coming 2nd overall. 3 students got in the top 5.That was Ali Agha who got 2nd, Zaker Khan who got 3rd and Imran Zahidy who got 5th. We all got a certificate of participation and our top 4 players got medals. The team plans to practice every Monday to compete in future competitions.
