Beliefs and Understandings
- School provides an environment where students can feel safe.
- Students gain knowledge and skills essential for their educational and social development.
- School enhances employment opportunities.
- Regular sustained attendance is fundamental to success at school.
Attendance
Students should be at school by 8.50 am so that they can be organised in time for periods 1 and 2. Students arriving after 9:00 am must report to the Time Out room for a Late Pass. If a student has to leave the school grounds during the day then a note requesting permission should be given to the Year Level Coordinator before the start of the school day, and students must sign-out at the General Office and sign-in if returning on the day.
Extended absence
The school does not encourage extended absences, but does understand that there will sometimes be accidents, illnesses or other special circumstances. In the event of an extended absence, please contact the Year Level Coordinator as soon as possible so that work can be provided to ensure the possibility of completing all outcomes for the semester. The completion date for this work can be negotiated between individual students and teachers.
Notifying absences
Parent or guardian should ring the 24-hour attendance phone line on 58217931 before 9 am to state why their son/daughter will be absent that day. If unable to call, a note signed by parent or guardian must be provided to the appropriate Year Level Coordinator by the next school day. Students who fail to have an absence approved may be given an after school detention.
Year 7, 8, 9
Students are required to attend 100% of their classes for each semester. Where attendance falls below 90%, applications for special consideration will be considered, for reasons such as: illness or injury; problems at home; death or illness in the family; medical appointments; religious holidays. More than 10% unapproved absences may ultimately result in non-completion of the semester. Meetings may occur with Welfare Officer, Year Level Coordinator, Multicultural Educational Aide and/or Assistant Principal to discuss absences.
Year 10
All students are required to attend 100% of timetabled classes. Students who have unapproved absences greater than 10% of the timetabled classes for a unit will receive an N (Not Satisfactorily Completed) for the unit. Any appeals will be directed to the Principal who may delegate it to the Assistant Principals.
Year 11 and 12
All students are required to attend 100% of timetabled classes. If absent without approval for 10% or more of classes, the student will be awarded an “N”. If attendance is less than 70% the student will have to appear before the VCE Review Panel to show cause as to why an N should not be awarded. If the absence hotline has not been contacted, absence notes are to be given to the Year Level Coordinator in the VCE Office at the first opportunity on the students return to school. Notes will not be accepted after 14 days from the date of the absence, unless a Medical Certificate is produced. A bulk note, i.e. many absences explained on the one note, will not be accepted.
