Shepparton High School has benefited greatly from the provision of a chaplain for nearly fifty years now, and the role is highly integral to the success of students and the wider school community. The school benefits through the availability of a specifically trained pastoral care worker, the provision of a person who can facilitate spiritual reflection and learning and someone who is able to directly support an agenda of cultural and social harmony through implementing educative programs, encouraging attitudes of tolerance and respect and being a confidential support person in the school that is accessible by all.
Our chaplain at Shepparton High School is Cheree Conley and she started here in May 2006. Previously a trained zoologist and wildlife educator, chaplaincy is a new field for her but she loves a challenge and has always loved working with young people. Cheree has a lot of people come to her to talk about their problems, share their frustrations and exciting moments, resolve issues with friends and with bullying. Students seek comfort when in times of distress and try to find out about spirituality. Cheree says she loves being a chaplain and wouldn't want to be doing anything else.
